The Young Profession

The Young Profession

Occupational Therapy is a unique profession. I consider it as a young and developing profession not only in MAlaysia but in many other countries around the world. It is not well recognised by Malaysian due to its initial existence in inappropriate group of profession. It adopts a very good philosophy as it touches about human lifestyle and day to day activities.
We believe occupation is something more than a job that we are getting paid for. It is a chunk of daily activity that can be named in the lexicon of the culture.... fishing, cycling, dining are all occupation. If we understand more about occupation... we can say (Zemke & Clark) " People are shaped by what they have done, by their daily patterns of occupation. " Should disease or disability strike, individuals will be able to reconstruct meaningful lives. How? Drawing on treadss of the past to create a sense of continuity in the new situation....
It is difficult to understand unless we become patients.... where the struggling starts in 'getting a life'.
